AHL and AYSA Partnering to seek a Youth Foyer for the Great Southern
Posted on:
Advance Housing ltd. (AHL) and Albany Youth Support Association (AYSA) are partnering to seek a Youth Foyer for the Great Southern.
A Youth Foyer is a dedicated transitional housing option for young people aged 15-25 years that provides stable housing and targeted wrap around supports. With 48 self-contained units providing 50 beds, the Great Southern Youth Foyer will be a place where young people can achieve their education and employment goals, with onsite coaching and support available to help them succeed. This two-year program acts as a springboard for young people to engage in education, training, or employment, leading to a future outside of homelessness and welfare systems. A unique feature of this project is the inclusion of an additional 10 bed crisis accommodation for youth. The hybrid model creates housing pathways, which optimises outcomes for young people, funders and the community. In addition, the facility will include commercial tenancies in the form of a training café and office space.
AHL’s role in the project will be to hold and manage the housing and commercial tenancy elements and collect all rents and undertake all maintenance and asset management. AYSA’s role in the project will be to operate the foyer support model and a scaled-up version of the current youth refuge model that they have been operating very successfully for a number of years.
Currently the partners have secured a generous commitment to the land for the project from the City of Albany and have applied for government grants to assist in build costs and operational costs. The partners are also engaging with philanthropic bodies to seek a contribution to this valuable regional community asset’s cost of construction.
